I, Kim Crawley, founder of Stop Gen AI, have said multiple times that I think our efforts to combat Gen AI should be focused on educating the general public, mutual aid for proletariat who are being made poorer by our evil overlords because they try to replace us with Gen AI, and… some offensive actions toward those in power over the longer term.

All of our most active group members are people who are not only thoroughly anticapitalist, but whether communist or anarchist, they understand that we would be wasting our efforts by trying to appeal to western politicians and Big Tech corporate executives.

The United States is a dying empire (look for Richard Wolff’s videos on YouTube), and Silicon Valley is a greedy industry that like all massive capitalistic entites, requires nonstop growth like a deadly cancer, on a planet with finite resources. Gen AI is their last desperate grasp to find a new growth hype cycle (as Ed Zitron describes it), while destroying what little planet we have left, all while trying to stop having to ever pay for human labour ever again. According to Forbes, US Big Tech has sunk at least a collective $3.4 trillion into the Gen AI black hole. That’s such a massive amount of money that it’s equivalent to the total amount of money that goes through a medium sized country’s economy in a year. There’s no way they would throw that much money into the pit without making sure every single politician, regardless of party, with any power to vote on legislation to regulate it or stop it, is bribed immensely to do their bidding. Not ours.

Even a very thorough 20 year research analysis by Princeton professor Martin Gilens and Northwestern University professor Benjamin I. Page says your influence on government policy through voting is nil. You have no influence if you aren’t a very wealthy individual or large corporation: https://act.represent.us/sign/problempoll-fba/

That being said, Brian Merchant connected me to something that AI Now Institute Director AI Kate Brennan has been planning with her org.

This is the official statement from the AI Now Institute and the People’s AI Action Plan:

On July 23, the Trump administration plans to release an AI action plan that reflects its priorities to use government resources to expand the AI industry. We know that an action plan centered around industry interests can only mean one thing: the unrestrained and unaccountable roll out of AI into every part of our lives — raising the cost of goods on the shelves, polluting our air and water, hurting our kids, and damaging our democracy.
We plan to preempt publication of the US AI Action Plan with a coordinated civil society response demanding that any policy agenda on AI must serve the interests of the people first, not corporate profits. On July 22, the statement will be published on peoplesaiaction.com. Over time we hope to develop this platform into a place for more sustained and organized action.

The signatories to this statement all have actionable ideas for an AI agenda that meets the needs of everyday people. This is an opportunity to illustrate a range of concrete strategies that are united in furthering the interests of everyday people, over the tech billionaire agenda we’ll see from the White House

On July 22 in advance of the Trump administration’s statement, and on July 23 in response to it, please help:
Share the statement and peoplesaiaction.com on social media
Share the Washington Post exclusive on social media

These are two of many examples they gave of post text that could work in Bluesky’s limited character count, and therefore also pretty much every other social media platform as well:

The advancement of American AI must deliver first and foremost for the American people; we can’t afford to let Big Tech and Big Oil lobbyists write the rules. That’s why we need a People’s AI Action Plan that puts the needs of everyday Americans over corporate profits. peoplesaiaction.com

Our freedom and equality, workers and families’ well-being, the air we breathe and the water we drink — all are affected by unrestrained, unaccountable AI. A People’s AI Action Plan supports a trajectory for AI that puts people before the interests of tech billionaires. peoplesaiaction.com

It was a tough decision, but Stop Gen AI decided to be a signatory of the People’s AI Action Plan. You will find our group name Stop Gen AI, and a link to our website (stopgenai.com) right on the front page: https://peoplesaiaction.com/

Speaking on behalf of Stop Gen AI only, I say it was a tough decision because we don’t think a fascist government where politicians from both parties are hugely bribed by Gen AI corporate interests, would have any reaction to the People’s AI Action Plan other than to ignore us or laugh at us.

But on the other hand, Stop Gen AI very much needs other organizations that are fighting Gen AI to ally with us. It’s immensely frustrating to me that the AI Now Institute and other organizations have ignored my attempts to reach out to them. Maybe if Stop Gen AI hangs out around the school gymnasium, the popular cliques of polite academics will notice us, senpai?

Stop Gen AI are the badass punks of the anti-Gen AI scene. We look up to groups like the Black Panthers, not to those who think obeying the rules of an evil government is an effective means of which to enact desperately needed social change.

And the need is super desperate. Unlike other People’s AI Action Plan signatories, we don’t mince words, nor sugar coat our language.

Human lives are literally on the line:

  • People will die without income to live on, meanwhile our overlords are using Gen AI to avoid paying for human labor.
  • The datacenters that support Gen AI are being built close to where poor people live (and far away from where wealthy people live), polluting their air, draining their rivers and lakes, and overburdening their power grids.
  • Climate disaster is worsening rapidly and has recently been killing millions of people per year. The Gen AI boom accelerates this further and it’s completely unnecessary.

So hopefully you can understand my desperation in wanting the rest of the anti-Gen AI community to work with us. Because while we know the People’s AI Action Plan will do nothing to sway politicians, we will be much more likely to effectively fight Gen AI with the more of us joining forces.

Fewer of us, lots of fractured groups acting independently? Weak.

More of us, combining our efforts, working en masse, thousands of us, millions of us? Strong.

Another possible positive effect of the People’s AI Action Plan may be educating the general public to be better informed and to join our cause. To save the planet, to save humanity.

So once again, here is the official website for the People’s AI Action Plan: https://peoplesaiaction.com/

You are strongly encouraged to share that link on your social media. While doing that, you’re also encouraged to sign the petition.

Even with not a single politician changing course, spreading public awareness that there is a mass organized anti-Gen AI resistance could help.
