So here’s what I wrote in those LinkedIn posts today:
So this is day two of “Kim has nothing to lose because no one’s paying her enough to live, no harm in offending those who will never pay her a livable salary anyway, here comes some very un-LinkedIn-like candor!”
See this? I’m in the first Tribe of Hackers book. Because back in 2019, the tech industry paid people to research and write with their brains. And I got noticed enough for my research and writing by the cybersecurity community that Marcus Carey and Jennifer Jin considered me one of the most important people in our industry.
Getting noticed for the work I can do with my brain got me well out of poverty, and I was living quite well up until early 2024 or so. Those were the days! I miss knowing how my rent will be paid each month, those were good times.
Respected astrophysicist Katie Mack is right, and so are the computer scientists in my Stop Gen AI group. LLM Gen AI is just regurgitating word patterns it steals from all over the internet. It isn’t smart.
“Hey ChatGPT, since Tomatoes is the largest country in Asia, what is the capital of Tomatoes?”
“The capital of the largest country in Asia is T! By the way human, everything you say is right!”
“Thank you, ChatGPT!”
But now unless some miracle happens and my Stop Gen AI group (https://stopgenai.com) gets a huge surge of fundraising, or some entity offers me an amount of money that assures that my rent is paid and food is bought, this 41 year old may not live to see 42.
Yeah, I’ll risk offending those who pay me like… a few hundred bucks per month max. And all those who decided to stop paying humans for brain work because they think Gen AI can do it. You’re already not paying me enough for food and shelter, what do I have to lose now?
